We Don't Dress for the Men

I am constantly amazed at some of the crazy shit girls wear at FIDM. The constant parade of high heels, mini skirts, crazy makeup, crazier hair, weird styles, and totally over the top accessories is mind boggling. There are the punk girls, 80's girls, “High Fashion” girls, and much much more. It's amazing some of these young women ever get any homework done after spending so much time shopping, getting their nails done, tanning, perfecting their makeup, and of course doing their hair.

In the beginning I was confused by all the vanity. There are about five straight guys in all of FIDM so why should these girls be spending so much damn time fussing and primping and going all out day after day? I could not understand it.

Then I had an “oh duh!” moment and I was finally able to make sense of it all. Obviously these girls are not dressing for the men. They are dressing for the other women. It's in no way about attracting guys, or impressing them. It's all a girly game of status and the other students are the competition.

The problem with dressing for women is that it's much harder than dressing for men. Dressing for men takes very little effort and you can get away with much more. Women however will notice every little detail. They will scrutinize and inspect you until they have seen everything you may have been trying to hide. Then they will judge you on it and share their findings with the nearest ally.

I myself will occasionally get sucked into dressing for women as well, although I try to avoid it as much as possible. It's harder here in LA than in other places though, especially since I am constantly surrounded by people who take fashion so seriously. I have never been the type of girl who likes to dress for others. I always try to just dress for myself. If what I'm wearing makes me happy? That's good enough.

The thing I have been procrastinating on is now helping me procrastinate further

There is an abundance of procrastination in my life. At the moment I am procrastinating on my homework, which is of course due tomorrow. I always manage to get everything done in time but I don't make it easy on myself. There is always at least one class that gets my procrastination powers going in overdrive. This quarter it looks like it's going to be my Business of Fashion class. I simply have a hard time making myself interested in the homework that I have been assigned.

With all of my other classes I am simply ecstatic to get started on my homework, this of course drives my roommate bonkers. The enthusiasm that I had towards taping various fabric swatches into a giant book for my Textile Science class was met with much eye rolling. I can't help myself though! The fact that the assignment allowed me to sit down and not only feel all these different fabrics in all their different fiber contents all weaved in different ways but also take a little magnifying glass and look at them up close was just too fun. Of course if I had to listen to someone squeal "This is soooo cool!" every couple of minutes I probably would have been rolling my eyes too.

Even now I am still unable to concentrate on my Business of Fashion homework. My intention was to sit down and write something, who knows what, about the class, or the work, or something! Instead I get all carried away just thinking about all my tiny fibers and threads and knits and silks and linens and filaments and textures and naps and velvets and prints and lace and satins and and and...

Photography

My girlfriend Alyssa is really into photography and you should all go look at her pictures! Shes just getting into it and has some absolutely gorgeous shots. I keep encouraging her to take more and put up more on her site, you all should too. I'm sure she would love to hear some feedback on her pictures. Also, she took some pictures of me recently that are really cute :)

Summer!

So far summer has been COMPLETELY INSANE!! Tons of fun, but insane. I've been hanging out with friends, running between my moms and dads place, visiting my grandparents, crafting for swaps and commissions and moving into my brothers room. I had no idea my summer was going to be so hectic!

Here are a couple recent poppets that I've made.
Leopard print poppet for a swap. She has boobs and a tutu!
Witch that I was commissioned to make. She has boobs and a tutu as well.
Fairy that was also a commission. I'm going to be making her new wings as soon as I get a chance.
I hand-painted her eyes.
Also, a zippered pouch! Cause I finally tought myself how to put in zippers! yay!
I have 2 minis and a booby poppet that I'm working on for swaps right now. I will be able to post them in a week or two after my partners receive them.
Also, I made a dress! I need to hem it and then it will be finished! I'm so very very proud of myself :) There will be pictures of that soon as well.

Myep. Exciting right? Besides all that good stuff I'm also organizing the poppet swap and participating in another one with two partners. So that means I have one regular poppet and two minis to make! Unfortunately I'm really really far behind in all my crafts and my supplies are scattered all over the place.

Lazy

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. My lame-ass excuses are:
1. I forget
2. I'm incredibly lazy
3. I've been feeling really crappy lately.

I haven't been doing as much crafting lately as I would like. I lost most of my crafty inspiration for some reason. It really sucks. I have two swaps to finish up and another one starting soon and I can't think straight when it comes to crafting. I also have drivers ed to work on and I'm making even less progress on that than on the crafting. I did get my permit though. Hopefully I can put it to use one of these days...

Kitty update:
Brose and I have been giving her some kind of antibiotic, an IV drip thingy and force feeding her. She refuses to eat or drink and has shown no improvement at all. I think she may end up passing away soon and I spent half the day crying over that fact.

Well, I'm off to bed now since I'm super exhausted.

Minus Two

Theres bad stuff going on around here. Friday Brynhldr died and I just found Munin dead too. The Gatta isn't feeling well either. She isn't eating on her own and has lost a bunch of weight. Shes actually skinny right now! I feel so bad for the poor tiny little things. Bryn was only 6 months old! I don't really know how old Munin was but he couldn't have been too much older than Bryn. It's all so very sad. I don't like it. I've had too much sadness lately and I need a brake from it.

On a completely unrelated note, I made two poppets recently. They will be going off to live with my partners from the swaps I'm in right now. Also, I will be organizing the next poppet swap which will start in the beginning of May. I'm super excited for it but also very nervous. Hopefully I will be a good organizer and everything will go smoothly.

I'm going to go mourn my little hamsters now.

Boogers

Yep. I'm sick. I've been super tired and my nose is all stuffed up and gross and I cant talk because I lost my voice. I'm having such a blast. I did get some crafting done though, I worked on a poppet and another bunny to put in my etsy shop. I might send the bunny to a swap partner though. I haven't decided yet.
Tomorrow I might be getting my permit! Only if I can be alive super early in the morning though. I would probably have to get up at like 7 or something. So I might wait till Friday when I will hopefully be feeling better.
I'm gunna go sleepy now....

Plague

I think I'm getting sick. I can feel it in my throat. It does not make me happy. In fact, it makes me kinda sad. I really don't want to be sick right now, I have been feeling so crappy lately and this is just going to make it worse. I also have to craft for 2 swaps that I'm in and I have stuff to make to put on my etsy shop. My mom was an evil BITCH today. So I might be stretching the truth a little bit, but she has been driving me so crazy lately. I can't stand to be around her for more than short periods of time or my head will explode. Or my heart. Maybe even both.

Anywho. Crafty update of the day. I made a bunny! Shes cute. And yellow. and on my Etsy of course. Hooray for cuteness!

So I really should be working on my drivers ed stuff right now. But I'm stuck on an assignment! I cant find any websites with the information I need! Its sooo frustrating. I think I'm going to go(try) and work on that. I will probably end up crafting though. Or napping. We shall see.

Etsy

I started an etsy shop today! Etsy is an online marketplace where people can sell there handmade goods. Its very exciting. I don't have anything for sale yet, but I will soon. You can check out what I have so far at siempreinez.etsy.com. I would love to hear some feedback especially on my banner thing.
I will be selling poppets and pretty much everything else I create. I got a debit card and a pay pal account as well. I feel kinda like an adult today. It's pretty creepy.

So thats the good news. The bad news is that Sunday was so incredibly stressful and confusing that I'm still walking around in a daze. I've just been wandering around thinking "WTF?!". I have been so sad and Its been affecting my crafting. The little progress I have made has reflected my mood so well its almost scary. I was working on a poppet and she looks so incredibly sad. She turned out really well though and shes very pretty. I also made a broken hearted necklace out of sculpey, I like the way it turned out and I think I might make more to possibly sell. Its so hard for me to think straight right now. I keep on spacing out every five seconds.

I finished that last poppet and she has been sent off to her new home! I'm sooo happy with the way she turned out and I didn't want to give her up. It's exciting that shes going to a little girl though. I also received from my frog swap partner(and she got her stuff awhile ago). I love everything that I got, she sent some really awesome stuff(2 totes, bracelet, earrings, bobble head tree frog, 2 frog key chains, needle book, tiny stuffie and wrist cuff). I will post what I made later.

So heres the dolly! She told me her name was Apple, the little girl who's getting her might change that though. I cut up a red handkerchief for her dress and headband(brose even gave it his approval!). I think shes perfect, definitely one of my best.

Im in shock

I cant believe it. I won the challenge on craftster. I really wasn't expecting to win. I kinda feel like I'm stealing the prize. Is that normal?
Any-who. I'm almost done with the poppet I'm working on now, I just need to give her hair and a dress. Shes for a personal swap I'm doing and shes going to be the first of my poppets to go to a kid. In return I'm getting a bunch of jewelry, I'm soooo excited about it.
So here she is all naked and hairless. The ears were requested to be longer and droopier like that. They kinda remind me of goat ears...
After I finish her I need to make a mini poppet for a swap I'm in. It will be my first mini! They are so freakin cute and tiny, I love them. They are the perfect size for faeries.

Now I need to stop procrastinating and go make hair! Woo!

Zoo

Theres a total of 12 animals upstairs right now. Its a zoo and Im loving every second of it.

• 1 Rat (Pumpkin)
• 1 hedgy (Persephone)
• 1 Cat thats trying to starve herself
• 1 Birdy who squawks if she doesn't get enough attention
• 1 Fish (WTF is wrong with fish!? they are so weird!)

Other than that Ive been sewing a lot. I finished the dolly I got commissioned to do and finished the doll for the craftster poppet challenge. Both were really pretty but I'm mostly proud of the challenge dolly. Her outfit is super cool. I doubt I will win but its worth a shot anyways (must find out what secret prize is!). Her post is here. I'm too lazy to post a bunch of pics on here right now. Sorry.

Now I have to craft for the froggy swap and make another poppet for a personal swap I'm doing. WOOHOO! and after that I will be making a bunch of dollies to sell. I'm pretty excited about it but also nervous. If all goes well I wont be getting a job for a while and just sell a bunch of dolls and other crafts I make. Yay!

Everybody loves my boobies

After I posted my dear bike mechanic poppet on craftser I got a huge rush of compliments on her boobies. It was crazy. Now I have two requests for personal swaps and a commission! And I'm doing the froggy swap as well. I have lots of craftiness to do now!
Today I'm in Dubuque with my mom and we are going to be going to craft stores later so I can get supplies for all the boobs I need to make. I also have to get animal food. Perse and punkin are both almost out. I hate that when I buy rat food I get a decent sized bag but its only half full! ARGH!
I should probably get some toys for the rat-butt as well....

Anyways. Im at the wellness center right now and Im bored out of my mind. I dont really have anything to do but sit around for the next five hours. Blah. It will all be worth it though, because I get to go shopping. Thats what I need to concentrate on or I will go craaaazzzyyyyy!!

Bike Mechanic Poppet

Shes not completely finished but I wanted to show her off anyways. I made her in honor of my daddy. She is made to be me if I were a bike mechanic. All of her tattoos are ones that I have thought about getting and she still has a few more coming too. When I was painting them on I couldn't resist making a buzzing noise like the real tattoo thingies make. =D
